Reproduction Iceni Norfolk Wolf Gold Stater

  • Product Code: CCNWS

  • £5.00

Obverse: Icenian wreath motif (remains of Apollo head) with upward facing leaves.

Reverse: Celtic wolf standing right, with an angular tap-shaped nose and two long fangs in its gaping jaw, pellets and small crescent above, large pellet and crescent between legs.

History: Minted by the Iceni, 'horse people' tribe. The fact that the Norfolk Wolf is the only early uninscribed gold stater that does not depict a horse on the reverse shows that the wolf was significantly important to the Iceni.

Date: Circa 60-54AD
