Obverse: Laureate head of Titus right. Text around T CAESAR IMP VESPASIANVS.
Reverse: Eagle facing on garlanded cippus (funeral altar), wings spread, head turned left. Text across field COS V.
History: At the consecration of Emperors, an eagle was set free from among the flames of the funeral pyre. Flying into the air it was supposed to bear the soul of the deified emperor to heaven. The eagle on this coin was associated with Titus' father Vespasian.
The COS V inscription celebrates Titus' fifth consular appointment in AD 76.
