Obverse: Crowned profile bust of Henry VIII right. Text around HENRIC VIII DI R AGL Z.

Reverse: Long cross fourchee over squared royal shield. Lis in first and fourth quarter, lions in second and third quarter, W A to left and right of shield. Text around CIVITAS CANTOR.

History: Groats and half-groats of the First coinage (1509-26) of Henry VIII depict the profile of Henry VII but with the inscription Henry VIII. From the Second coinage (1526-44) a young profile portrait of Henry VIII was used, which is depicted on this coin.

The text on the reverse of this coin shows that it was struck at the Canterbury mint. The initials W A refer to Archbishop William Warham, who was the penultimate Archbishop of Canterbury who ordered coins to be struck.
