Reproduction House of Hanover Coins

House of Hanover Coins
The coins of George I had the arms of the Duchy of Brunswick and Luneberg on one of the four shields. The object in the centre of the shield being the crown of Charlemagne. The King’s German title also appeared in abbreviated form.

George II guineas had a revised shield on the reverse. Some treasure seized by Admiral Anson was made into coin, with the words LIMA below the King’s bust.

During George III’ reign a change in the gold standard and a regular silver coinage came in 1816 when the Mint began a complete re-coinage. The Guinea was replaced with a 20 shilling and silver coins were made with an intrinsic value lower than their face value.

The reign of Queen Victoria saw the first step towards decimalisation with the introduction of the Florin. Gold and silver coins were redesigned for Victoria’s Golden Jubilee in 1887. During her reign the bust of Victoria changed a number of times including the Young head, Gothic and Jubilee busts, Bun head and the Old head.

Our reproduction and replica Hanover coins include Guinea, Shilling and Sixpence.
