In 1412 the standard weights of coinage was reduced, partly because there was a scarcity of bullion and partly to provide revenue to the King. The Calais mint was reopened c.1422 and for some years a large amount of coin was struck there. It soon stopped minting gold and was finally closed in 1440.
In 1464 the weight of the penny was reduced and the noble increased in value to 8 shillings and 4 pence. In 1465 a new coin was issued, the Ryal, valued at 10 shillings. The old noble was missed and a new coin the Angel took its place.
